Diameter: 13.2cm
A masterpiece by Masayuki Uraguchi, who studied under Living National Treasure Koheiji Miura. He has continuously introduced new techniques, from traditional celadon to black obsidian glaze, miro-ji ware, and lapis lazuli obsidian glaze. Uraguchi's deep knowledge of Chinese ceramics is evident in the beauty of his glazes and the diversity of his crackle patterns, which are the culmination of his tireless efforts and repeated trials, and the greatest charm of Uraguchi celadon. In recent years, he has also ventured into large-scale works with unique forms such as Boshan censers and Boshan jars.
This lapis lazuli obsidian glaze was developed through testing with the idea of creating a blue version of the black obsidian glaze. Although it fired into a black bowl, it shines like a starry sky when exposed to light. Only about 10% of the 100 pieces fired are deemed suitable for release, making these highly rare works.
